Model precision, out of plane covers

Hi

Is it possible to reduce the precision of a FD-model or nodes in GH?
I have a datasheet with coordinates given with 3 decimal-points, where rounding causes my surfaces to not be perfect planes.

I’ve tried to illustrate the issue below.

I’ve tried to create a plane in GH, as its precision threshold is smaller. I then project the points onto that plane which allows me to create a cover.

However, the covers can’t connect to the bar elements as they are now shifted on the 5th decimal.

Hi @Thomasaar

It is a known issue and it seems to affect several users.

I need to dive deep into the FEM-Design tolerances as it might affect some calculations. Planarity is really important for FEM-Design in case of design calculation.

It is currently set to 1.e-5 but I can double check to see if it can be relaxed a little bit

Thanks for the quick response, I look forward to hearing what is possible. :relieved:

Ehi @Thomasaar

Which unit tollerante do you have in Rhino?

Your geometry is planar for rhino but not for FEM-Design right now.

Can you please share one rhino/grasshopper file? I will try to help you out today
